Breakfast Food Policy
The City of Newton and the Zervas School are still in the process
of developing a food policy which will address the increase in serious
food allergies among school age children. At this time, the Zervas
Food Policy Committee has established that:
a. No food may be brought into the school
and distributed to students for the purpose of birthday, holiday
and/or other types of personal celebrations.
b. Food may be brought into the classrooms for parent breakfasts.
In this circumstance, it is assumed that the parents of children
with food allergies are present and will monitor their childs consumption
of the various foods provided.
Please adhere to a simplified breakfast menu of: bagels, cream cheese,
fruit, coffee, and orange juice. Please do not bring in frozen bagels
from the grocery store, as they may be processed with nuts. Regarding
Dunkin Munchkins, the school is also interested in improving the
quality of food provided to children in response to the growing
problem of childhood obesity.
Family Support
If a family has a short term crisis, room parents may arrange meals,
playdates or other help. For more long term needs, the school's
Social Worker may
coordinate support with the PTO and room parents.
